Domino - Patience III

Patience is a solitair domino game. This version resembles ordinary domino very much, much more than the card game patience. In fact, of the three patience games described this one is most domino-like and least card-like. It is describes here in a standard format.

Number of players
The game is for 1 player only.

Time
about 5 to 10 minutes.

Materials
One domino game with stones 0-6.

Object of the game
To play all dominoes.

The deal
All dominoes are shuffled face down. Turn up one domino and put it in the middle. Deal yourself 5 dominoes.

The rules

  1. All dominoes played must be played to a free end and must match numbers.
  2. The layout always has two open ends, each sprouting from the first domino.
  3. If you can not legally play a domino, you have lost.
  4. If your five dominoes have been played, draw five new ones.
  5. Doubles are placed crosswise as usual.

The end
The game is won when you succeed in playing all dominoes.

Small variations
You can play this game with larger sets such as the double-nine or double twelve set. Larger sets are harder, and the larger the set the harder the game. To compensate this slightly, deal yourself 7 dominoes when using the double nine game and 9 dominoes when using the double twelve set. That gives you more freedom in deciding which dominoes to play.
