Stratego Plaza
The strategy game is marketed in the Netherlands by Jumbo under the name Stratego.
Banchi (pronounced "bon-chee") is a cross between Chinese Chess and Stratego.
There is a java version at Red Brian Software.
There are two commercial variations I know of:
- Strategy for 3 or 4 players. This game features two map boards.
On one side a territory for four players, the reverse shows a mapboard
for htree players.
The victory condition is a bit different: The flag may be transported by other pieces.
A flag may be captured by another player. A player wins by bringing a captured flag to the center of the map.
There are also several new pieces. One is a cannon, which may hit enemy pieces at two squares distance.
- The other variation is Krijgsspel (Kriegspiel or wargame).
A player wins by capturing the Galacic Overlord of the opposing player.
I have always felt that there are several small twists to the basic game you might wish to try:
- Winning does not occur by capturing the enemy flag, but by capturing the Fortress.
The four center squares to the backends of both players sides consitute the Fortress.

A piece in the Fortress attacked from outside has its rank raised by one.
- Another variation comes from Cavalry.
Stick a note on two sergeants making them cavalry.
A Cavalry may move two squares.
